The Communications Division serves as the primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for San Jacinto County and is the critical link between the public and emergency responders. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Communications personnel are often the first point of contact for citizens seeking assistance and play an essential role in coordinating public safety services throughout the county.
As the county’s 9-1-1 communications center, dispatchers answer and process both emergency and non-emergency calls for service, gathering critical information and ensuring the appropriate resources are dispatched quickly, accurately, and efficiently. Communications personnel provide dispatch services for the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, all four San Jacinto County Constable Precinct Offices, county emergency medical services (EMS), volunteer fire departments, and assist with communications support for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Texas Game Wardens, and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies operating within the county.
The division is responsible for monitoring and coordinating radio communications around the clock, maintaining constant contact with deputies, constables, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other first responders in the field. Dispatchers track unit activity, monitor responder safety, relay critical information, coordinate resources during emergencies, and ensure seamless communication between agencies during major incidents, disasters, and multi-jurisdictional operations.
In addition to answering calls and dispatching emergency responders, Communications personnel conduct criminal justice information inquiries through state and national databases, including warrant checks, driver’s license inquiries, vehicle registration checks, criminal history information, and other law enforcement-related records. The division also maintains and verifies active warrants and serves as a critical information resource for law enforcement personnel operating throughout the county.
Beyond emergency communications, dispatchers are frequently the first voice citizens hear when calling the Sheriff’s Office and often the first face they encounter when entering the Sheriff’s Office lobby. Whether assisting victims of crime, providing information to the public, handling administrative inquiries, or helping individuals experiencing emergencies or crises, Communications personnel demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and exceptional customer service while remaining calm under pressure.
The Communications Division is staffed by highly trained telecommunicators who possess the ability to manage multiple incidents simultaneously while making critical decisions in fast-paced and often stressful environments. Their work directly impacts the safety of citizens and first responders alike, making them one of the most important components of the county’s public safety system.
The mission of the Communications Division is to provide professional, timely, and reliable emergency communications services while ensuring the safety of first responders and the citizens of San Jacinto County. Through dedication, teamwork, advanced training, and a commitment to excellence, our dispatchers serve as the lifeline connecting the community to emergency services when they are needed most.
